Translating French fashion editorials to English is hard work….and not always as simple as it may seem. Yes Google translate does come into play – most certainly on this occasion – however – you have to be somewhat of a wordsmith or even have a minor ability to decrypt – as not every sentence or word translates well.

What does translate incredibly well is the photography. As it is said – “A picture is worth a thousand words” and so WOW – do these images do this statement justice. Bagsie (used in the U.K. to call dibbs, to claim first choice, by saying bagsie you are saying it is yours because you are the first to claim it.) on the clover print pant suit please! xxNxx

“Before your very eyes – something irresistible, Simpson and Daniel Hechter, with the SX-70 Land Camera, it’s all so simple. You focus, touch a red electric shutter button, and within 2 seconds out spills an apparently blank sheet of film. Gradually, almost magically, the picture develops before you.”

Clothing for this article were sourced from Simpson by Daniel Hechter. Once again David Bailey astonishes us with his striking imagery using a SX-70 Land Camera.

✨Designer Spotlight I Hardy Aimes✨

Perhaps best known as the ‘dressmaker to the Queen’, Sir Edwin Hardy Amies KCVO drew his fashion aspirations from his mother, and having turned down a university education in lieu of journalism, Hardy eventually wound up writing for Couture House Lachasse, London, shortly before becoming their managing director in 1934 at just twenty-five.

Following his drafting into the Intelligence Corps during WWII, Hardy cheekily arranged a Belgian Vogue fashion shoot less than twenty-four hours after D-Day, and was widely renowned for having had his military uniforms tailored in Savile Row.

Establishing his own fashion house in 1945, with financing from the Countess of Jersey, Hardy’s suit and menswear designs became a firm favourite with the British public, and he soon found himself Vice-Chairman of the Incorporated Society of London Fashion Designers for a brief period.

Boasting commissions from the 1966 England World Cup Team, 1972 British Olympic Squad, Oxford University Boat Club and the London Stock Exchange, Hardy later offered designs for brands like Crown wallpaper, while costume making for the likes of Stanley Kubrick throughout most of the 1960s.

With a very close relationship spanning almost forty years, Hardy consistently styled and created numerous outfits for Queen Elizabeth II, before receiving a knighthood for his service in 1989, while his own fashion house was sold to Debenhams in 1971, only to be repurchased in 1981, until a final departure to the Luxury Brands Group in 2001.

Sir Hardy Amies passed away in 2003 aged 93, and leaves behind a simple style legacy based upon impeccable taste and presence, no matter the occasion.

Size tags on vintage clothing are different to tod

Size tags on vintage clothing are different to todays sizes. For example, a 1960s size 12 is roughly equivalent to a modern size 8 or 10. As vintage and modern sizes differ so greatly we include actual garment measurements as well as the modern size equivalent within every listing.

Self-Measurement Process
Lay your garment flat and measure with a flexible measuring tape at each of the points referenced in the listing. You can double the waist, bust-chest and hip measurements to give you the full circumference.
If your garment’s measurements are smaller than or equal to our item measurements at each reference point the listed garment should fit. You will need to use a flexible measuring tape for all measurements and make sure the measuring tape is wrapped snugly but not too tightly as you need the measurement to be accurate

Bust
Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of the bust and add 1.5″ – 2″ to this measurement for ease of movement.

Waist
Wrap the measuring tape around the smallest part of your natural waist. Add 1″ to this measurement for breathing room.

Hips
Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your hips and bottom (making sure that the measuring tape is snug to your body but not too tight). Add 1.5″ – 2″ to this measurement to account for walking and sitting.

Shoulders
Measure across the back of your shoulders from the mid-point of each shoulder bone (For coats, add 2″ – 3″ to this measurement).

Ribcage
Take a good deep breath to help expand your ribcage and then measure around the fullest part of the under bust.

Length (Trousers)
Measure straight down the outside of your leg from the natural waist to the point at which you wish the trouser edge to fall.

Length (Dresses)
Measure straight down from the highest point of your shoulder to the point at which you wish the dress hemline to fall.

Inseam
Measure from your crotch area down the inside of your leg to the point at which you wish the trouser hemline to fall.

Rise
Measure from the crotch area up toward the belly button to your natural waist

Holiday bound? These dresses bring to mind the Aegean Sea, its coasts and islands. Sun soaked, sand washed, a simple design, floaty, feminine, elegantly beautiful – perfect for balmy evenings sat beneath terracotta sky’s.

They are part of a large collection of Anne Tyrrell’s Estate which have been preserved, unseen, since the late 1970s. These items have no label as it was a custom made item. A truly rare and collectable find.

Label
These are rare “unlabelled” pieces of the Anne Tyrrell Estate Collection hidden away in her personal archives since the 1970s. Once discovered, all vintage items were documented by the Anne Tyrrell family & Couture Editions, who were also responsible for managing Anne’s portfolio of original illustrations as well as the framing, sale, and distribution process.

I was fortunate enough to contribute to the Anne Tyrrell Trust, invited to join the celebrations of Anne’s life and works at ‘The Store Studios’, viewing her unique portfolio and finally asked to curate her remaining conserved and unseen vintage collectables - Nastasha

But Loris Azzaro, whose glittering clothes are first seen in these pages, is being made successful by his customers – and when your clients are Lisa Minnelli, Bardot, Martinelli and Bacall, fame must follow.

"Already he has salons in Paris, Milan and Rome, and a boutique in St Tropez, where he started. One of Azzaro’s trademarks is bare shoulders, in contrast to the totally covered look for evening which has been popular for so long.”

“Both are wearing Azzaro dresses – Miss Berenson’s in the clinging sequin fabric which is one of Azzaro’s favourites. Lisa Minnelli wears a purple jersey Azzaro design in the film – with bare shoulders and a curtain of fine chains over the midriff.
