La Perla
In 1954 Ada Masotti, began the journey towards a dream of creating an atelier of corsetry in the name of the best Italian tradition.
Beginning in Bologna, a town renowned for a tradition of silk factories and textile manufacturers, Ada used her talent as a skilled corset maker to create works of art.
During the 60s La Perla launched a new concept of lingerie, with multicoloured floral, plaid, and checked patterns.
Trends of the seventies called for lingerie that could give the wearer a sleek, natural shape. La Perla moved with this direction, furthering its research and creating lightweight
and loose-fitting designs.
The 80s epitomised a decade of decadence marked by the drive to succeed. Women’s fashion appeared to embrace the extremes of daytime suits of a growing plethora of career women,
contrasting with extravagant evening wear characterised by pouf skirts, shoulder pads and ultra-bright colours. And now by this time, La Perla had become world famous, with collections
in the most prestigious markets.
Fashion in the early nineties appeared to favour rich fabrics with elaborate lines with glamorous nonchalance. La Perla campaign shoots displayed dramatic,
dynamic and intensely seductive women in lingerie that seemed to match her shoes, jewellery, jackets, and even hats. This trend of blurring the boundary between public and private, emphasised the
ascent of lingerie into the world of fashion.
La Perla appears to have followed the evolution of the female body through different fashions and trends, hence becoming the lingerie and beachwear brand synonymous with “Made in Italy”.

Description
La Perla Dress | Black Cocktail Dress | 90s Designer LBD
La Perla
Phenomenally sexy dress by luxury lingerie brand La Perla, in a barely sheer black fabric adorned with gold threaded clusters of faux crystals clasps.
The halter neck is fixed by a neck band incorporating tied thinner strands looped through the lower back sections, giving a deliciously saucy draped plunge effect. This only enhances the dangerously cut bust sections which are inner lined, through the dress with an internal bodysuit. This is a maxi dress, floor length, with a kick slit to the back of the dress, up to behind the knee.
Sultry and sensual, I’ve never seen such a beauty before – it’s a perfect example of the appropriation of luxurious early nineties boutique style by an established Italian brand.
